    Sharing from Freedom Fest
www.freedomfest.com is going on about the same time as the Campaign for Liberty here in Las Vegas.

Over 800 people (self-counted) turned out to hear Ron Paul tonight on the main convention stage. what a huge contrast to the 100 people falling out of a banquet hall not even in the hotel 2 years ago. The energy was electric. All the ol' libs, local reformed repubs from AZ, CA, WY and NV turned out. the message was clear from End the Fed (now 263 co-sponsors in House, 8 in Senate) to never give up. We are so close to a 'reset' with the Fed just the beginning.

Tomorrow, more training for the folks at C4L, lecture/seminars from Peter Schiff to Wayne Root handing out advance copies of his new book "The Conscience of a Libertarian" Tax haven, jury nullification, economic and marijuana policy project lectures to more FREE BEER and oh yes, the advance tasting of tequila by invitation of the vendor.

    Good times. ;-)

    ATL gyno?
I know this has been asked before, but I can't find it.
    So....
I am in need of a good gyno, specifically one who takes BCBS and will treat me like a grownup who actually understand how her body works :)
I live in East Point, so on the south side would be awesome :)

    At the PTA
Spent the day at my PTA conference. Well, the Georgia state PTA convention. Promoting the SIEGE College and Career Fair. Interesting seeing the mix of exhibitors there. Our booth is between the Shakespeare Tavern and people who do fundraisers with stuff penguins. Across from us is a cheap pizza group that wants PTAs to use their food for fundraisers. The most interesting part has been the 10 or so exhibitors from serious organic and slow food groups promoting better foods in schools. Interesting to see that gain some traction.

    Restaurant recommendations!
What's your favorite highly Americanized Asian restaurant (preferably buffet) in the Shallowford/Buford Highway/Clairmont area? Cheapness is a plus.

My sister and I like the buffet restaurant at Clairmont and Briarcliff for this-only-barely-resembles-anything-Asian food *g*, but we're looking for something new to try.

    What’s right with Libertarianism
    Hey Gang,

Earlier today an essay called “What’s right with Libertarianism” was published at caps.fool.com as a rebuttal to someone else’s criticism. While certain points may irritate the purists among you I thought most would enjoy reading both it and the following comments. I especially liked this.

    ==
Antagonist - Second, Marxism is a mirror image of Libertarianism.

The difference is that Marxism specifically limited the personal freedoms of individuals. You were forced to become part of the community and had no choice but to succumb to the ideals of your government and your society. Nowhere in Libertarianism will you find constraints to collectivism. Libertarianism only opens up the avenues to which you can obtain this collectivism. Individual freedom and being part of a larger community are not mutually exclusive. Marxism absolutely inhibits individual freedom.

Antagonist - Libertarians also assume that if people are not subject to prevailing cultural models or fashions, they will automatically end up adopting conventional bourgeois lifestyles.

When I read this, I knew that you fundamentally misunderstand the goals and values of Libertarians. We do not assume that people will make socially beneficial choices at all times or that people will always exercise self-restraint. What we do assume, is that it is well worth the risk of having the opportunity to make decisions for yourself. Secondly, the moral zeitgeist is constantly evolving. What is considered "morally acceptable" today, will be different tomorrow. Libertarians do not concern themselves with what is "morally acceptable", it is irrelevant.

    My new favorite thing
    I want a ShitBox.
Just to say I have one.

And their blog is one of the GREATEST THINGS KNOWN TO MAN!

Cardboard tribute art, toilet roll art, songs, videos, etc -- all cardboard related, or gentle-humorous-poo related (I have no other way to describe it).  But when you post the video to "Living in a Box" on a ShitBox blog...that's funny!

    Transformus - Not.
Being a responsible adult has perpetrated it's sudden but inevitable betrayal. Finances, or the lack thereof, and work, or the over abundance thereof, have conspired to shoot my Transformus dreams out of the sky. So in short, I'll not be attending this year. (Much with the sad face here)

So I have an extra invite/ticket.  I'd be happy to pass it on for the face value of $75 .  Comment here if you're interested.

    Coke with Sugar
I just got back from vacation in Wales where they sold coke in little cans made with sugar not corn syrup and it was soooo good. It was the coke I remembered from childhood.

Where can I buy coke with sugar here? In little cans is a bonus as they were just the right size for an afternoon drink.

    Thanks!!

    Semis on the Connector
Isn't the downtown connector supposed to be closed to tractor trailers passing through the city?  Aren't they supposed to go around on 285?  I feel like the connector has suddenly gotten much more congested with semis lately, especially on my morning commute.  Anyone else notice this?  Is there a reason for it that I've missed?

    Looking for a good stamping
    Hey all,

Does anyone know where I can get a custom stamp made? I know the design and wording that I want, but the online stuff just doesn't seem to have the full concept of custom down.

    Help, please?!

    Local currencies
What do you guys think about local currencies? I've been reading up on them and they do sound like an interesting concept. I've heard it's good as a way of stimulating local economies and encouraging spending on smaller local businesses. Here's an older story from March I found on a local currency called BerkShares used in Great Barrington, MA: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,513877,00.html

There are many others. Do you guys think it's good for smaller localities in terms of generating wealth and jobs and provides competition for a legally-recognized currency (in our case the US Dollar)?

    Ways not to save money.
I bake. A lot. Since I've been trying to save a little money lately, the last time u bought flour, I purchased a store brand of all-purpose flour. Noelw, this flour has been fine for making sauces, banana bread, and pancakes. Since I hadn't made a pizza in a while, I thought tonight would be a good time to do so, since we'd just gotten a new giant bag of mozzerella. So I did, exactly as I've done for years.

For those tuning in for the first time, I'm generally sort of an ingredient snob. I figure that if you want your finished product to be high quality, you stand a much better chance using the best ingredients that you can get. For white flour, unless you're making cakes, this generally means unbleached, unenriched hard red winter wheat flour. And I'm a big fan if bob's red mill flour. This time, though, I was trying to save a buck, and purchased whatever was generic all purpose flour at m street. So I make my normal recipe:

1 3/4 or so of flour
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp sugar
    1 tsp yeast
    1/2 tsp baking powder
    2 tbsp olive oil
1 cup hot water, that you must never use all of

Now I'm really anal about how mix this. The order is flour, whisk, yeast, whisk, sugar, whisk, salt, baking powder, whisk, drizzle in oil while whisking vigorously, and thencontinue whisking until you have something that looks like it would be a good biscuit dough. At this point, you add your water untilnit acts right, then turn it out and knead it until no longer sticky. At this point, I start thinking, "there's something not right with this dough". I put it off, however, to natural variability.

Anyway, the pizza comes outabd the dough had browned unnaturally quickly. I didn't think much of it, again, until I ate it. Holy plastic pizza batman! Completely flavorless crust, managing to simultaneoulsy be tough and without texture. I make a lot of pizza, and I've done a lot of strange things, and some of them don't work out well, but this was hands down the worst pizza that I've ever made, including the first ones where I rolled the crust so thin that it didn't rise and the no-flour bran crust pizza. Awful. I'm going to throw this flour away, now, andbever buy anything like it again. Bob, you're my man forever.
